Manual Handling

After completion of the course the candidate will:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operative.
  • Be able to state the definition of manual handling, the main causes of manual handling injuries and the reasons for manual handling training.
  • Be able to describe the function and shape of the human spine.
  • Be able to describe the function of intervertebral discs.
  • Be able to understand the effects of static loading and the risks involved in team lifting.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of formal and dynamic risk assessment.
  • Be able to identify and maintain PPE appropriate for manual handling operations.
  • Be able to conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Be able to describe and demonstrate safe handling techniques.
